What's the differences between Days Vs Open Days in alerts and reminders?

The difference is the same everywhere.
Days : include week-ends and off days
Open days : do not inlcude wekk-ends and off days.
For instance:
Today is 2012-10-02 : 2012-10-09 is in 7 days, 5 open days.
If I define 2012-10-02 as off day in glibal calendar :
Today is 2012-10-02 : 2012-10-09 is in 7 days, 4 open days.
