Hi,

There is no auto-update in the way you could have for standalone software.

Each tile a new version is deployed, you can :
- receive an internal alert if : you are admin, you agreed the "look for update" in the global parameter screen, and you server has "allow_url_fopen = On" in php.ini.
- receive the information in the newsletter if you subscribe to it
- receive an alert from forum if you subscribe to the "news" topics

Then update process is easy :
- download new version
- unzip it on your server and move result so that the new directories/files will overwrite existing ones
- connect as admin (any other connection will be blocked until process has ended)
=> the 'automatic' process will begin, upgrading your database to new version

That's all.
You can upgrade from any version to any newer version.

One more thing, will the update effect the data. Or should I back it up.

You should always back-up before an upgrade, in case something gets wrong duiring the process.
And I advide to backup daily (or at least weekly).

But the upgrade process does not delete your data : your get you data unchanged after upgrade.
