Documents are only frames to define metadata of document.
Files are uploaded on "Versions" of documents.

What does not appear anywhere in the 200+ pages is "how" to get the content of the document uploaded and into document directories - I have files on my laptop, the server is elsewhere with the metadata frame----

There is nothing in the manual on this.

Doing a search on the word "upload" there is a single occurrence of it, on page 5 "Documents management, with version follow-up, upload and download functionalities."

When I physically go to the server and look, there is a folder "Documents" has been created, and an empty folder "Project", no directory tree as shown in the Document Directory page on Projeqtor GUI.

How can my team who are scattered throughout the world upload files which they have written? What does one review when requested to review a document, the meta-data?

RTFM does not answer the question.

Pls find attached a picture of the existing directory tree for /var/www/wwwFiles/documents, and a screenshot of the Document directories that are supposed to exist.

They do not match ....The folder "Administration" and Projects/Templates were ones I have added through Projeqtor.

We should not have the same user manuel :blink:
When I'm on document page, I just hit [F1] and come to Document help page (1/4).
Here I can read :

• The Document item describes general information about the document.
  The file is not stored at this level.
  ]A document can evolve and a new file is generated at each evolution.
  So files are stored at document version level.

  What answers your first question (or question was not clear)

Are you sure you're looking at the right place ?
Document location is defined in Global Parameters...
But also, directories may be empty or not existing until you upload a file (version) for a document in this directory.

Upload version of document.

Go to document : there you'll be able to view versions list and dowload any uploaded file.

Please also take car that ProjeQtOr is not a file system management, nor a GED.
All documents are here for Project reason : they should be linked to project, and if so, access rights to Project items are applied : so take care not to request validation to someone who will not have rights to access to document.

To finish, notice that you can also view documents in the directory tree, but here again ,access rights are applied.

To answer questions about you print screens, try and add files (versions) in the corresponding directories (selected in the document).
Physical directory in file system should be created.

We have been using different documents - I have been using the .ppt version that was referenced from google search, obviously not as up-to-date as F1 - shall use that in the future.

I think I understand it better now.
Next question on the document version control - is it possible to set the version control for draft as V0.0.m-DRAFT, rather than V1.0.0-DRAFT-n?

It is exactly the answer I war reparing.

But I would not use this, because in my mind V1.0_draft1 means first draft version of 1.0.
This is what draft stands for.
V0.0_draft1, for me, means first draft of no version... so I don't know wich version I am preparing.
Otherwise, you can directly make a V0.1 (before V1.0) which is so kind of draft of V1.0.
But this is Version Management Process, on your own choice.

What I have been trying to achieve is a "Central Store" for common template files, such as all the Project Management Documents (PMBOK structure), etc.

They are common documents across all projects, which need the same format/structure applied through all, so to ensure that all my teams, wherever in the world they are working can quickly and easily pull the "template" file, change the required bits, then upload it to the applicable project.

I have ended up creating an "internal" project, priority 999 and placing all the documents in there. for teams to take off copies as they need.

Is there a more "streamlined" way that this could be done?

Your way to do will require to affect all project managers in order to give them view to template documents.
Other way is to link documents not to a project but to a product (for instance you can create a virtual product called "Template"). This way, every user will see these documents, as everybody sees documents linked to products only (there is no Popject access rights applied).
