1. Meetings send email invitation - is it possible to add outlook scheduling/invitation?
2. This is looking more like a defect - In attendee field there is no check for duplicates - is it possible to add?

It is already the case : when you click on "send invite", you send an email as a meeeting booking.
=> directly recognized as meeting invite in Outlook and Lotus Notes
=> with .ics file in gmail
I did not test other mail clients.

It is not working with outlook. Enclosed calendar message named: not supported calendar message.ics

It seems ICS format is used in Outlook since version 2007.
Are you using an older version ?

Office 2007 should be able to open .ics files, but mayby some registry blocks it.
Edit registry key :
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftOffice12.0OutlookOptionsWebCal
Change DWORD key "Disable" to value 0 (zero)
Restart Outlook.
It should then open meetings invite correctly.
I am on Windows7 - so I cannot find this key but there is a few keys related to this type of files and looking like all is set - so it should be recognizable. Unfortunately it still not working
