a good approach is to have a planned due date. We more often work with a planned release, not knowing final delivery date. This might be helpful – and would be great to administer as well with parameters.

Planned due date exists.
To work with planned due date is easy : link you ticket or activity to a top activity.
The notion of release may be added but it would also need to add all the apploications environment (a project can manage several releases of same application, or on release of several applications or mix of both..)
