At present time, in version 8.6.6 (sorry not being up-to-date, corporation constraint), planing calculation is based on workload as of some has been defined, otherwise on the duration. My use case is a mix between workload of resources in my firm, and a task duration defined by my subcontractor for which I don't know at this early stage the workload. I could separate into two tasks, but that's not convenient at all. If I could check a box to force the planning calculation to still use the duration, that would solve my problem. Moreover, later in the project, I will know the subcontractor workload and I will be able to switch to it more conveniently.

You just have to change planning mode to "fix duration".
Then resource with work won't be calculated "as soon as possible" but work will be dispatched over the duration (like regular between dates, but with floating dates)
