When the setting of the screen layout is changed (e.g. tp "show listS top") while the "Today" page is shown, the setting is not stored.
The change is only possible when something else is selected e.g. activity.
Can be reproduced in the Demo, logged in as "manager"

You won't be able to change the layout on any screen that is not impacted.
The selected icon remains the old one.

In my opinion this is a strange behavior because from the perspective of a user i expect to do there some global settings for my profile independent if the active view shows a list or not.
To me, this is similar as the behavior of the activity stream button in the same menu which stays as the last configuration but after new login the activity stream is shown again even if the symbol shows that it should be hidden...
It's not a big deal for me (I get used to it) but I think it would make it more intuitive for general users.
