I noticed an issue which is a not empty display in the sub-project field (on "poject" view").
When you are a member even if the actual project is not a sub project.
The field displays the name of the project with the smallest wbs number. Thus, this field is underlined as compulsory but is not normally.

Have the user change the parameter for separation char.
Then disconnect / reconnect.
Be sure to clear the browser cache.

After many trials to solve the problem it turned out that some profile access combinations lead to this problem.
I think that the bug may be in objectDetail.php or htmlDrawOptionForReference in html.php.
To help you reproducing the problem I found a simple combination leading to this problem:
let a user create a project having a project leader profile, then change the access rights of the project leader profile in access to data (project dependent)/Projects from manager to reader and that's it the problem appears...
