Hi,

A basic question that I cannot find anywhere, hope someone can explain.

I know that I need to re-calculate planning when I have added some tasks resources etc, but what exactly are the occasions that I need to re-calculate? For example, if some resource has entered real work, do I have to re-calculate it or maybe set up a cron task? also when I re-calculate, do I choose the project start date or the current date? I read in the forum somewhere that it is suggested to choose the current date to re-calculate, why? What does the system when I do the recalculation? What has been calculated?

Thanks!

You need to recalculate when there is an action done that may have some impact on planning :
- add task with assigned work
- change left work on a task
- enter real work that does not fit exactly what was planned
To know if you need to recalculate ap project, it is easy as ProjeQtOr tells it to you :
- on project view, you'll see "need planning" in progress / steering section
- on gantt view, the icon of the project has center colored in orange

Now, at which date ?
At the latest date when all resource have entered real work.
To explain ,let's take an example : your team always enter real work one a week, on friday
Let's say they last entered real work on march 29th.
If on wednesday 3rd you run planning starting at current day (the 3rd), the planning will "clear" monday 1st and tuesday 2nd, so your project will "loose" 2 days in delay.
You'll then have to plan at starting date = monday 1st to get the good planning

Could you please post a screenshot, I can't find the progress/steering section, is it in the list or do I have to click on one project?

- on gantt view, the icon of the project has center colored in orange

I don't seem to see the centered orage color is that because I use "Contrasted orange" theme?

So if I have entered real work, it will won't be planned from the real work even the start date is current date?

Thanks! Now I see, but the orange center is very small and not very easy to see in my opinion. I have missed it the whole time.
