I have an activity that has 2 assignments and one of the assignments (resource) has now left, the activity is complete even though it didn't take as much time as planned.
But it will not left me close this activity as there is "left work" - I have no idea how to close this - please see attached for the situation.
Just edit the assignment and set left work to 0.
This can also be done throught the '"real work allocation" screen.
Then you can close the activity.

That is great - thanks - it worked in that case. NOw I have another case - but there are no assignments this time. Is there another advice you could favor me with please?

Here is another picture and the message is the same... "Unable to close an element with left work"
The picture is clear : you still have some left work (1 hour).
If you don't have an assignment on the activity, then possibly left work is on a daughter activity (activity with parent activity as current activity).
A glance at the planning view will help you see the hierarchic links.
