Did you set up workload for resource and done work ? LIke this you can calculate the progress.
Have you recalculated the planning once done ?
In progress or done status are just displayed to give information and do not impact at all the calculation.

yes of course.
Have you assigned workload for each resource ? Duration will be calculated depending on some planning rules, also done (time sheet) and left work, and obviously resource's availability on the futur.
So, progress is not arbitrarily indicated, it is calculated, moreover for each activity and consolidated to the father project (and mother activity as asked before into your post).

No, status changes are most of the time done manually following a detailed workflow that you set up yourself on a type of the considered element.
Good to know, in the global parameters you can set the following mechanisms:
- when a resource fill for the very first time its work on the time sheet, it is possible to automatically tip ( or not) the macro state "handle" on this activity. There is another mechanism which permit (or not )automaticaly to change the statut of the mother activity when a sub activity is qualified to be handle.
-when the remaining work is zero then it is possible (or not) to change the statut automatically to done. ( same behaviour for mother activity if enable as explained above)
Whatever your choice, dates for each macro statuts are always remaining changeable

I have set up "auto set parent activity status " in the Global Paremeters,
But when I "done" the children activity manually, the mother activity status can't be updated to "done" automaticly.
Why the mother activity status still be "in progress" ?

Some left work could be still planified on parent activity or on others sub activities
