[#4448]

According to the help (RealWorkAllocation.html), the Resources can adjust the Left work value to estimate the work needed to complete the task.

But looking at real organization, a resource is NEVER allowed to take such unilateral decisions!
At best, this can be a request from him to the PM, to let him have more time. That too, only if the PM agrees.
Most likely, the PM will insist on closing the task on time.

The help should have a hyperlink to a page that explains the possible scenarios:
1. The PM rejects the requested extra time
2. The PM approves only a part of the requested extra time.
3. The PM approves the extra work without any change.

The help page should explain how the GUI allows the resource and the PM to mutually interact and work out a resolution.
Also, how each of the above scenario works out.

I think we leave on parallel worlds.
In 'my' real life, the resource highlights as soon as possible that he will require more (or less) time than planned.
Then PM adapts the project to fit the new constraint (This is real life, as explained by Hofstadter's law).
But I agree that there is not enough "alert" on the add of extra work.
This is already planned as Ticket #2394

I really am enjoying these exchange of views!

You rightly quoted Hofstadler's law. It means that even the resource himself will initially feel that he can finish the job sooner than what is really possible. But later he will end up asking for an extension.

And our dissimilar worlds can be explained with Hofstede's cultural dimensions: Indian culture has a high power distance. So the senior management anyway expects the team to finish the job in a tight schedule, and the pressure usually mounts as you go down the hierarchy. So the extensions cannot be settled casually.

When dealing with the ticket, please also keep in mind the effect on others if there are multiple resources on the job.

Some of these may not be affected when the task is extended. They will finish their part and move on.

But others are put in supervisory/consulting capacity, and they have to be attached to the task till the very end.
Usually the PM would assign their 10% or so to the task.
But ProjeQtor does not have a feature to automatically extend their effort when the task gets extended.
There should be a way to do this.

In fact, MS Office allows the PM to define the duration, and then it converts the duration into effort.
Something similar should be done here.

MAybe, in some later version.
Maybe if you may sponsor this evolution, we'll be glad to develop it on next version 😉

MS Office has long been duration driven.... so yes, it is one of the way is works.
ProjeQtOr is only effort driven.
So it may not "automatically" cover every use case.
