How deep can organizations be nested in units?
Beginning at middle size many companies are split into separate business units.
Is there any limit in nesting company/unit/department?
How are teams with members belonging to different units handled?
Are those members internal or external?
Example:
Company X
- unit central management
- units for local management and run
- unit IT
- unit maintenance
- unit ...
Company wants to build a new location, almost any existing unit is involved in planning and implementation:
For brainstorming each unit for local management is envolved at multiple stages of planning at least, later on not absolutely required. Central management, IT, maintenance and other units are always required (be it for information only or active work or validation of budget only).
There is not (today) any hierarchical structure of Organization...
So organization are not "nested".
And this object is mainly designed to bring transversal consolidation.
So there is no issue to manage projects with several organizations :
- ever you split work for each organization on sub-projects
- or you just don't manage organization for this project 😉
- or you just don't manage organization for this project 😉
sigh ... 🙂 if it would be that simple.
This is an example taken from real world ...
Company with about 1.500 employees currently, multiple locations spread through whole republic from north to south, divided in units.
Yes, I'm envolved. Yes, they might be interested in own project management.
Edit:
Yes, billing is fun as well. Wrong unit choosen and bill returns to sender ...
