the context pull down lists lists – these need to be alphabetical ascending order, otherwise its very slow/painful to find anything

Contexts have a "sort order" value.
Lists are sorted on "sort order", so you can define the order you want (alphabetical ascending, alphabetical descending, chronological or else) 😉

It works as expected.

I changed OS order :

and the list is as expected :

You mean you have put sort order values manually to achieve that but I am talking about option

If I understand, you expect to sort by displayed value if sortOrder is not set.
Is that it ?

This seems a good idea.
I recorded the resquest (Ticket #797).
