Hi,
It would be very convenient to have a way to make the assignment of a Resource to a Calendar "time-bounded" (i.e., from a Start Date to an End Date) similar to Project Affectation.
For example: For resource "Jenny Reilly" who is having a 2 weeks annual leave, an exceptional Calendar "Jenny Reilly Calendar" which marks these 2 weeks as off is assigned to her. "Jenny Reilly" will have this Calendar during the 2 special weeks (say from Start Date: 5 Sept 2016 to End Date 16 Sept 2016). "Jenny" will have the "default" Calendar starting from 17 Sept 2016 and on. This will make the resource subject to the same public holidays defined on the "default" Calendar and affecting all the project members without having to define for her those same public holidays in "Jenny Reilly Calendar" and without having to do this also for any other resource already having a special Calendar. B)
This will also make calculation and re-calcualtion of the planning more robust and correct from any date as any global exceptions are defined in the central calendar "default" and only a personal exception is defined in a special calendar and affects only the period where the special calendar is effective.
You try and define off days in MS-Project way.
Try and forget it.
In ProjeQtOr, calendars are for categories of working people. For instance, full time (default) and calendar for 80% (off on ervery wednesday).
But to record holidays, do not use calendars. Do no even try to define one calendar per resource.
The way to do this in PRojeQtOr is to use Administrative projects. They are designed for this.
You create one adlinsitrative project, with as many activity as you wish
- 1 only for "off days",
- or 1 for holidays, 1 for sickness, 1 for exceptional off days (wedding, ...)
Then, resource enter real work in the future on these activities.
You don't have to affect resources to the project, nor assign them tro activities (it is the interest of administrative projects).
It is easy, precise (you can book 1/2 days), and accurate to plan resources.
