[#4692]

Hi all,

I know we have the user guide, but Is there a simple tutorial with an overview of creating a project with users, tickets and activities with a typical workflow from starting to closing a project? The user guide has lots of information but no real advice or example of how to use.

Thanks,

Mark

No , we don't have other user doc .

The next documentation in preparation is the technical documentation , but is not a user documentation.

OK, thanks. Would it be possible to write an informal example like a quick start guide for how to get started with ProjeQtOr?

At the moment it seems very time consuming and confusing trying to understand the basic steps and sequence of them to create a project with users, tickets and activities and how to manage them. Nothing formal, just a plain text list of things to do and how to do them briefly, with a simple example workflow for planning, monitoring and closing a project.

It is exactly why we provide some training.
Not only because ProjeQtOr is very complete and may seem complex, but also because Project Management is a complex subject.

Agreed, to an extent. Training would be useful when/if ProjeQtOr is used productively, but to get an idea of basic usage a simple quick start would be extremely useful. Thanks.

New user here.

Perhaps this is something we as noobie users could work on?

My thinking would be:
as you are working through the setup and and and
one takes notes. At some point in time this interested group collects the notes (comments whatever) and then produces some kind of document.

This might be the blind leading the blind but in the Open Source universe participation is encouraged and this is one place that someone without previous background or intimiate knowledge of the software actually could be a great help.

What say you? (to mjbatty)

If nothing has been done yet I've been working on a basic guide just for the project planning part of this for my university. It doesn't get into tickets or real work for example. But I'd be happy to share it although it is currently detailed in French (and I'm not sure I can be bothered translating it myself). I should probably get approval first as all uni work technically belongs to them though. Would the forum be the best place to share it though?

be careful Zoe do not post it before getting the final evaluation results from your university since they might check for plagiarism (through Turnitin for example) and even if you are the source of the public information they may consider it as self-plagiarism (autoplagiat).
I realized later from another post on this forum that you are teacher not student. So do not mind the message.
I didn't find a way to delete this answer (only editing is possible)

Yes, you can share it on forum.
Possibly, we could also add it on download page.

Hi Zoe,

How is it going with the guide? It would be really appreciated if you can share it.

Thanks!

Hi clarezoe!
I haven't gotten around to translating the document but I can post what I did in French. Maybe someone else will get around to translating it before me... It details most of project management in the sense of ordering tasks to be complete, and touches on real work completed and task progress. It was only done in Word (I know, I should have done it in LaTeX or something else probably...) but I would happily share a different format if that would allow collaboration to complete certain aspects or easier translating, just tell me what format and where 🙂
Hopefully it helps someone!

Hi Zoe,

That's fantastic! Thank you very much! I don't know any French but I hope google translate should do the work. I created a google doc https://goo.gl/YrdeGL and we can start from there.
